Many scientists who are atheists (many are not) look at faith as something that doesn’t prove anything, and because the scientific method demands every conjecture should be testable in order to prove it, then faith doesn’t have a place in their lives. Faith isn’t something like the size of an atom that can be measured objectively. I firmly believe that if Dr. Hawking had found something in his work that, to him, pointed to the existence of God, he would have become a proponent of that truth.
