I totally agree with your assessment. This article was really just about the actual financial “cost” and not about other dangers women face, which many great writers on Medium, like Caitlin Johnstone and Emma Lindsay and Zaron Burnett III address here and here and here.
Looking into just how much more it literally costs to just be a female, I really feel that something needs to be done there as well. Some of the cost is based on the societal pressure for what a woman should look like, which could change over time. But it looks like the majority are baked in to take advantage of women, which could be changed by laws.
